Joanne Buda, LCSW
Joanne Buda is a licensed clinical social worker with more than 25 years experience. She earned a BSW in community advocacy from the University of Western Ontario in 1978 and worked for a number of years in rural child welfare before completing an MSW at the University of Toronto in 1986, where she specialized in group and family therapy. For the next 10 years she worked in hospital and community mental health and completed, in 1994, a training certificate in Expressive Arts Therapy at ISIS - Canada, International School of Intermodal Studies.
In 1996 she moved to New York City, where she worked in various psychosocial rehabilitation and supported residential services for the mentally ill and persons with AIDS, initially as a front line staff, then as clinical coordinator and finally as a program director. In 2003 she joined the staff at Park Slope Center for Mental Health in Brooklyn as a psychotherapist and supervisor, with MSW interns from NYU, Columbia University and Hunter College. During this time she also studied at the New York Institute for Psychotherapy Training for Infants, Children and Adolescents. In 2004, she moved to Philadelphia, where she worked initially in a behavioral health managed care company, as a clinical care manager and then as a credentialing auditor.
In 2007 she joined the clinical practice of Dr. Robin Lowey & Associates, where she currently sees both adults and children. Joanne's style of practice is eclectic. She employs cognitive behavioral methods, relaxation/meditation interventions, play and expressive art therapies, within a psychodynamic framework, to empower her clients to overcome many issues, including anxiety, depression, stress, bereavement and life trauma.
